Fifteen years ago, when I began to study English I didn´t have online dictionaries or online books, so the learning was more difficult but not was impossible. About that I remembered something particularly complicated “The Phonetic”. When we looked in a dictionary usually asked the teacher: ¿what the little symbols that appear next to the words mean? And the teacher said “They were phonetic symbols, a guide to pronunciation” In that time, maybe, we didn´t appreciate the importance of the correct pronunciation but today all the people know that it´s essential in the learning to English Language because “The sound of the word can change the meaning of the sentences” so we need to know the sound associated with the symbols in order to build up the sound of the word. Fortunately, we stay in the technology age so we have many alternatives to improve our learning English for example: online dictionaries, applications to smartphone, blogs, Cd´s, online book, etc. If we use this tools listening to music, watching movies or TV in English we could improve on our auditory sense and of course our pronunciation. The true learning to phonetic English is in your hands and all depends of you.
You are completely right Yulliana. It depends on you and how better you want to pronouce. Have you been given some tips about pronunciation during these fifteen years?
Yes, I have. I´m convinced that listen to music in english is really good when is combined with the lyrics of the song because you can listen and read the word in the same time and your brain get use to it.
